Nashville Scene’s Best of Nashville Readers’ Poll: Best Gift Shop for Witches

At East Nashville’s Hail, Dark Aesthetics, a raccoon penis bone will set you back eight bucks. A coyote skull will cost you $45, and half a taxidermied vervet monkey (the top half) is yours for $649. But Hail is more than just bones, bugs and specimens in jars. Anything remotely morbid or eerie has a place in the oddity shop — vintage medical equipment, Victorian tear catchers, crystal balls and tarot cards — but Hail also has gifts for pop-culture fiends. You can grab a Lemmy coloring book, a Lady Gaga Jesus Dressup magnet set or a vintage band T (the shop has a clothing section). Hail sells all the latest designs from local designer (and lover of all things spooky) Olivia Frankenstein too, including her renditions of classic horror movie posters with a Nashville spin — “It Came From the Cumberland River,” “The Phantom of the Opry” and “Nashveratu.” It looks creepy, but there’s nothing to be afraid of — the friendly staff won’t try to upsell you on that raccoon dick, either.
